What to Write in an Out-of-Office Sick Message

1. Number of Days You Will Be Unavailable

You should also include the dates and the approximate number of days you will be out of the office. This way, your manager can plan ahead and delegate some of your daily tasks to other employees. This ensures that the day-to-day operations run smoothly and there aren’t any bottlenecks due to your absence.

2. Name of the Person Who Can Assist In Your Absence

If you’re taking a long leave of absence, be sure to include the name of a colleague that people can reach out to regarding any questions they may have related to your tasks.

3. Whether or Not You Will Be Available Over Call or Email

You can also include whether or not you will be able to assist remotely in urgent situations. If your health does not allow you to take up work calls, mention that in the leave applications so that your colleagues and managers do not try to contact you regarding work.

Other Out-of-office Sick Message Tips

1. Inform Your Manager Early

Inform your manager as soon as you realize that you won’t be able to go to the office. This allows your team to make arrangements for your work and delegate responsibilities to achieve the deadlines in time.

2. Clarify Further Actions in Case of Upcoming Meetings

If you have an important meeting or event that you’re unable to attend, it’s a good idea to let your manager know as soon as possible so that they can either suggest attending remotely or sending a coworker instead.

Keep Everyone Informed with an Out-of-office Sick Message

If you’re feeling under the weather, it’s important to let your coworkers, managers, or clients know as soon as possible. This way, they can make arrangements accordingly. Your out-of-office message doesn’t need to be long. Just include relevant details about your absence without divulging any private information.
